But are ab exercises a waste of time?

Don't get him wrong ... he does recommend some exercises that directly target the abs and core. But these are only a small fraction of the exercises in programs he designs for his clients. 

Time is better spent focusing on the full-body exercises that stimulate the greatest hormonal and metabolic changes within the body. And, here's a great side-effect: when you work out using mostly full-body multi-joint combo exercises, you indirectly work your entire midsection even though you aren't specifically targeting the abs.

All the right exercises won't work unless ...

Keep in mind that the most important factor for losing belly fat so you (and others) can see your abs is actually in the nutrition arena. No matter how hard you workout, if your diet is full of junk (and too much of it), then your abdominals will be covered with ugly fat.
